The 44 best clubs and nightclubs in Nottingham (2025)

Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem is a renowned and peculiar ancient pub nestled in stone caves. It boasts a charming and quirky interior, complete with resident ghosts. The pub provides delectable food options alongside its traditional ale, making it an enticing destination for visitors. Located in Nottinghamshire, England, this historic establishment holds the distinction of being one of the country's oldest public houses.

It was very nice. The pub is so authentic and well organized with the seating. It is quite spacious even though it fees a bit crammed walking around once you sit it feels spacious and nice. We had fries and onion rings they were pretty delicious as well and the menu has a huge selection of everything (vegan, gluten free etc.) the beer was also amazing. Overall, loved the place and the vibes.

Always love visiting Ye Olde Trip! A fantastic place to rest for a while with a good pint, especially when the weather is nice. My friend and I spent most of the afternoon there in the garden bit, outside and decided this time to sit upstairs where the haunted Galleon rests silently in its box... what an area! If you get the chance to have a sit up there, it's definitely worth it! So much history in this place. We'd never had food here before, but will certainly be ordering again. Got the fish, chips and crushed peas which was fantastic! Fish was cooked really well, the chips were great as were the peas. I mean you can't get any better, than somewhere so full of history and character as this place. If you get the chance to stop off anytime, it's definitely worth it! And during the week it's even quieter, so a bonus! 👍🏻

We didn't eat here, we were rekindling a trip down memory lane. It didn't disappoint. As the oldest pub in England set into the caves of in the wall of the castle. Great old pub

Established in 1189, the pub rests against Castle Rock, upon which Nottingham Castle is built, and is attached to several caves, carved out of the soft sandstone. These were reputedly originally used as a brewhouse for the castle, dating from the medieval period. This is a Greene King owned and operated pub, and as you'd expect, the Real Ale was great and in good condition. The staff were busy, but very friendly and helpful. There was plenty of seating was available (visited on a weekday) and after the lunchtime rush. The pub is walking distance to the Robin Hood statue and Brewhouse Yard.

Second time visiting but this time alone while staying in a hotel the night prior to a conference. I returned because I enjoyed my last group visit and it was familiar to me. First time eating. Found a table as you need the number for orders at the bar. Steak and chips were both really tasty cooked as requested! Gravy charged separately. Lively atmosphere but didn't spoil eating. Rooms for all tastes. Steeped in history. Cosy upstairs, definitely haunted right at the top room, and I think I have another review on a year ago about the cursed galleon in a glass case. Has outdoor areas, and nooks. I would not recommend for people who cannot climb stairs for seating if downstairs was full. Popular. Thanks!

Very fascinating and historical pub. Place seems to be very popular. Was good that I reserved a table even I was solo. Food was also good.

One of my favourite pubs to visit! A pub with a rich history and great food and drink selection. When you set foot in Ye Olde Trip it's like stepping back in time as the pub is built into the caves and the pubs decor itself has been unchanged for many years (A good thing). The pub inside is quite small and can be quite difficult to get a table at peak days, however there is seating outside at the front of the pub and at the side of the pub too depending on the weather. If you ever visit Nottingham and love your history this is the place to go!

Jon B — Google review

You definitely have to visit if you're in Nottingham.Have a walk around, take photos and do have a drink (maybe a bite too, like I did 😂.. And oh the chicken sharer was nice). The tables have numbers on them and that's what you order to, from the till. Oh, this place is popular so you might find a queue at the till (I did), depending on the time you visit.Service was fantastic, everyone was helpful and nice.

A very old pub restaurant with plenty of good food to choose from. It is built into the cliff under Nottingham Castle. We were visiting the area and it was recommended to us. We would certainly recommend it ourselves.

Glynis M — Google review

You can feel the history when you enter this old pub. Loads of atmosphere and friendly staff. The food is good but I'd probably go for something different from the house burger next time. The chips were very good and the duck that my mate had looked nice. Well worth a visit but probably best to book a table.

Simon — Google review

One of a kind? Rooms carved out of the cliff. Greene King pub so you know what you ate getting in terms of food & beer. But the building itself is amazing. I'm guessing it's far from the oldest pub in England though!!

M F — Google review

Loved this place! It sounds like a tourist trap, but the food, beer, and experience was awesome! And! You can use the Greene King app to order to your table outside to avoid any inside lines… service was quick! It was so good, we went there two nights in a row.

Easy to park & get about for disabled, lovely, helpful & informative staff, husband says the beer is excellent & the food looked great too!No cash transactions, smallish loo, ground floor is fully accessible but rooms are built into the rock of Nottingham Castle & used to be prison cells, so smallish but very old, & first used in 1189!Historic, interesting & lots of fun!

Mitch F — Google review

The pub is very old and characteristic. It was built inside the caves and it's stunning inside. We had a typical British lunch: fish&chips, mac and cheese and steak pie as per pisctures attached. Plus 3 beers we have paid 50 quid.Very cozy and relaxing.Definitely a must in Nottingham.

Viki C — Google review

Stunning pub with an enormously rich heritage, built into the foundation Nottingham Castle. Gets quite busy, but has a large terrace in front for extra space. Food options were limited on the day we went, and the food was just ok. It's a small space, which I think slowed down service as well

Nice old pub with plenty of history.Won’t be disappointed worth a visit.Food you get what you pay for.The pub itself is very fascinating and also has great architecture along with many parts telling a thousand stories.Great spot for Bikers I found too.

Anthony C — Google review

One of the oldest pubs in England. Interesting place in a great location with plenty of seating both indoors and out. The selection is what your expect from a pub. The quality is fine and the meals are filling. I didn't like that not all the ingredients are listed on the menu. For example, aioli, mayonnaise and other condiments are not listed under the burger contents next to the cheese, onions, etc. As someone with a food intolerance and a knack for avoiding conflict, it meant I didn't even get to eat my meal. Please list all the contents of the dish!!! The garlic bread was absolutely delicious, as was the pie.

An unusual Pub dug into the rocks below Nottingham Castle. It kept the spirit of the times, it should definitely be put on the list of visits. The staff were friendly. The Olde Trip beer we drank and the Fish & Chips food we ate were excellent.IN EXISTENCE SINCE 1189, YE OLDE TRIP IS CARVED OUT OF THE ROCK DIRECTLY UNDER NOTTINGHAM CASTLE AND FAMOUSLY SERVED THE CRUSADERS ON THEIR WAY TO JERUSALEM.

The Pub's description as an "Ancient pub built into stone caves with a charming, wonky interior & resident ghosts, plus food" intrigued us immediately. We simply had to experience this unique setting with resident ghosts for ourselves. After securing reservations for a party of 5 on 7/3/24 at 12pm, we were promptly seated in the enchanting stone cave interior. The cozy rooms, though not overly spacious, were spread out across multiple floors, adding to the pub's mysterious charm. I finally got to try a traditional meat pie here, and it was absolutely delicious! The cider selection was top-notch as well. If you're in the area, this pub is a definite must-visit for a memorable lunch or dinner experience!

This pub is amazing. Seeing pictures and videos does not do justice at all. We were pleasantly surprised at how quirky and impressive it was. We were very lucky to visit during the weekday, which meant that we were able to find a table and spend some time there. The lady who served was very pleasant and friendly. We found a table which was not reserved (most tables were reserved, as it looks like it gets very busy in the pub, because it is quite small I do think the best option is to book a table), and it was upstairs next to a small bar and next to the famous cursed galleon model ship. It was impressive to see it. The pub is kind of built into a cave. We had battered halloumi, which was really nice, and the wait for food wasn't long. Definitely recommend visiting, even if it is just for a cup of coffee. This pub is one of those must visit places. Hopefully, I will be back in the future.

A short stop at the Trip while returning home for a visit. A pub that goes way back in time that cannot be recreated. If you ever get chance to do your research before visiting, it will be well worth the time.

Came to Nottingham for my wife's birthday and this was our first stop after arriving by train.A very interesting layout for a pub, as it goes into the caves it becomes something of a labyrinth moving between different rooms.I had a burger whilst my wife had steak and both our meals were lovely.Particular mention for the atmosphere which felt great and you could really feel the history of the Inn whilst sat inside.

Jack W — Google review

Great pub, love the history here. Nice variety of beers on cask, and the food has always been really good and at a reasonable price. I've had a burger here before, as well as steak ciabatta, both lovely and others in the group had the chicken sharer which was huge and great value for money. Can get VERY busy and due to the nature of the pub it has very little room to move around, I recommend you get here early or go on a weekday if you want time to explore the inside of the pub.

Lydia — Google review

Very very authentic and beautiful pub, nothing similar all over the world. It was established in 1189, it is so exciting to understand what a historic place you are drinking a pint in.By the way very affordable pricesLocated just near Nottingham Castle 🏰

If you're in Nottingham and love old buildings, it's well worth visiting this pub. One of a few pubs laying claim to be the oldest in England, which is built into the cliffside below the castle (we'll probably never know which is actually the oldest). It's well worth visiting to have a look around (and a beer of course), and one to tick off the pub bucket list. They had a few real ale offerings, which were in good condition. It can be busy inside, but there are lots of benches outside. They do food as well, but we just visited for a drink.

James G — Google review

Great atmosphere and service. Perfect pub with a good selection of beers on. The manager and staff do an amazing job of embracing the history of the pub and area. Definitely worth a stop in.

Matthew M — Google review

Such an amazing place. I would definitely recommend a visit. The building has lots of different nooks and crannies, the staff are excellent and the food is amazing. They were very allergy conscious and catered well for my onion family intolerance. All together a first class experience.

My husband said that this is the highlights on our trip to Nottingham. We will definitely comeback here! The pub is actually a cave which is amazing and the foods are fantastic. It was quite busy when we dine here but the service was still quick. I recommend advance booking as I think this pub is always packed.

Fantastic pub built into the limestone cliff below the castle. Make reservations to sit inside. It is a Green King pub, but the food was better than your standard GK. It was fantastic to eat and drink in such a cool place. There were stories and cursed items all over. Worth the effort.

Jim C — Google review

Gorgeous old pub, loads of atmosphere, loved the rooms in caves with the period decor. However the service is shocking and the food is tasteless. I had the beef Sunday roast, 3 small tough pieces of beef, 3 pieces of potatoes, a small spoon of grey cauliflower cheese, a huge airy yorkshire pud, looks impressive but tastes like nothing and a 1/4 cabbage char grilled. You are shown to your table by a very disgruntled waitress and then basically ignored. To order you must fight your way to the tiny bar, order your drink and your food pay, wind your way back to your table and wait and wait...for £21 odd for the meal & half pint, go and take in the atmosphere but leave the food. There are plenty of restaurants in the area with great service and food.

Amazing place! If you looking for history and culture look no further the pub is literally built into the rockMany quirky rooms and spaces to explore and an atmosphere to match built way back in the 1100's approx this location is full of charm and characterSet in the foundation stone of Nottingham Castle and clearly sight to tens of thousands of the years its well worth a visitYou can almost feel the history while sitting there soaking it all inBeen on my list for some time very happy to have been here now will be back again

I LOVE THIS PLACE! Already been here twice in a week! Being an Indian and vegetarian in United Kingdom, I was unable to find food according to my taste preferences. I used to find everything bland, even food from fast food restaurants. But this place completely flipped my mind. The food is brilliant. We ordered a loaded nachos, vegan burger, vegetarian mac and cheese, garlic breads, and onion rings. The burger was so flavourful. It had caramelised onions, a thick cutlet, salad and sauces. The mac and cheese is the best one I’ve ever had. You can try it with the garlic breads because that is a superb combination. The onion rings are as crisp as autumn leaves. Nachos are very unique and simply delicious. Apart from the food, the whole vibe of the place is to die for. The interiors are gorgeous. The staff and service is a 10/10. The place is pet friendly! I highly recommend Ye Olde Trip To Jerusalem.

We went here for a quick lunch stop - a cosy little pub that is built into the ancient caves, with gorgeous, rustic-looking interiors. The staff are warm and friendly.Food was not extraordinary, but nothing short of being delicious either. We ordered:•Fish and Chips•Vintage Cheddar and Bacon Burger (the vintage melted cheese tasted heavenly!)Highly recommend to anyone taking a tour around Nottingham - make sure to visit and maybe even cross paths with a resident ghost!

Wonderful atmospheric pub ser in the caves under Nottingham Castle from the 1100's. Make sure you make a reservation to get a table on one of the upper floors. Down by the bar gets crowded and has minimal cave atmosphere. We honestly had a perfect table under the chimney opening in the malting room. This is how they used to raise the beer up into the castle.Unfortunately, I have to note that the food was not good. But I would still recommend going to grab a pint. You won't regret it!

Had a relaxing drink and had fish and chips at lunch time, the fish looked large but it was mainly batter so wasn't impressed, chips and fresh peas were nice. The Inn itself is lovely inside ,didn't go upstairs but will do on our next visit. Plenty of outside seating to relax and enjoy a beverage or two.

First visit after many years of wanting to, certainly wasn't disappointing, more than lived up to my expectations. Great beer, great atmosphere and all round good vibes. Loved it, will visit again

What a beautiful little place to eat.The beer is good, the service is good and the food is delicious. The pup itself is a very quirky and the ceilings made out of the rock is a sight to see.Well worth a visit here for some good food local knowledge and a nice pint.

Tasted as the oldest pub in England (albeit there are a few other contenders), the pub dates back to the times of the Crusades. Nested within the Caves under Nottingham Castle it is steeped in history. A must stop for anyone visiting Nottingham. An excellent selection of real Ales on offer. It does get busy at times though.

We went for the atmosphere. Built into a cave partially. Very unique experience. Good was good. Good drink list to choose from. Lots of history. Wish we could have done the haunted tour. We were here on New Years Day and lots closed that day. Glad for this place being open for lunch!

Delicious food, great beer, and wonderful staff! I stopped here tonight with my boyfriend on our way through Nottingham. We had the pea & mint soup, the great British cheese toastie, the vintage cheddar Mac & cheese, and two different hand-pulled ales. Everything was excellent! I wasn’t feeling the best today so I wasn’t able to finish everything, but I really wish I could have! The décor inside was all so interesting, we spent some time looking around and were so impressed. The castle and cliffs outside are also beautiful. The staff are empathetic and offer great service. After we sat down at our table, a male customer was making me uncomfortable by staring. We asked a bartender if we could move tables to be out of their view. They went out of their way to make sure that I knew that this wasn’t ok and that we could of course move tables, and asked if anything else could be done to resolve it. After moving, another bartender ensured that I felt comfortable with our new table, even after the other group had already left. From what little I’ve learned about the spirit and history of Nottingham in my short time here, I feel that they really exemplified the city’s values and made me feel validated and empowered as a woman. Thank you so much!

The vegan burger was full of flavor and the vegan mint pea soup was yummy!Such a fun atmosphere! Eating in an old cave/inn. Lots of levels and little nooks to sit in.

This quaint very old pub (said to the oldest in England) is situated at the foot of Nottingham Castle and partially dug into the sandstone rock. Actually looks like its not changed in 100's of years. A must see if you're already close!

Erick — Google review

An interesting experience. Advertised as one of the oldest pubs in the UK and built into the caves underneath Nottingham Castle. Food is excellent.....was genuinely surprised at the quality. The interior is very different from normal pubs and includes wonky floors, sandstone walls and a few cobwebs which all add to the experience.Worth a visit if you're in Nottingham. Any geologists amongst you will particularly enjoy a pint here.
